CV Format for Gulf Jobs: UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar (2026)
Recruiters in the Gulf screen hundreds of applications from many countries, and they look for a few details that Western resumes leave out: your nationality, visa status, notice period and often a photo. Including them up front saves a recruiter a phone call and keeps your CV in the shortlist pile.
What to include
- A professional photo in business attire, expected by most Gulf employers.
- Nationality, current location and visa status (for example: “UAE residence visa, transferable” or “Available to relocate”).
- Notice period or availability date.
- Driving licence, including the country, especially in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
- Languages, with level: English, Arabic and others.
Structure and length
- Keep it to 2 pages; 1 page for early-career roles.
- Use a reverse-chronological format; recruiters distrust skills-only layouts.
- Name the employer, city and country for each role, which matters for overseas experience.
- Add GCC experience, Gulf certifications (for example SCE in Saudi Arabia or DHA and DOH licences in the UAE healthcare sector) near the top.
Country notes
- UAE: English is the main business language; online portals often use ATS, so keep a single-column version.
- Saudi Arabia: marital status and nationality are commonly listed; an Arabic version helps for government-linked employers.
- Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain: similar conventions. Always state visa transferability and notice period.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out visa status, so the recruiter cannot tell whether you can join.
- A casual or cropped photo.
- Experience without numbers: Gulf recruiters respond to project values, team sizes and targets.
- Sending a Word file with broken formatting. Send a PDF.
